Do you qualify for Italian citizenship in Argentina?

It depends on where you live: Argentina has 9 Italian consular offices (Buenos Aires, La Plata, Rosario, Córdoba, Mendoza, Bahía Blanca, Mar del Plata, Lomas de Zamora and Morón), and each one serves its own area. The Consulate General in Buenos Aires serves the Autonomous City and some districts of the Province.

Mainly: your Italian ancestor's birth record from the comune where they were born, a certificate showing they did not naturalize, and the birth, marriage and death records for the whole line, each with an apostille and an Italian translation.

It might. Since March 28, 2025, anyone born outside Italy who holds another citizenship is recognized only if an exception in Law 74/2025 applies. The main one: your father, mother, grandfather or grandmother holds, or held at death, only Italian citizenship. The others: one of your parents lived in Italy for 2 consecutive years as an Italian citizen before you were born, or you filed your application, had an appointment date assigned, or filed a court case by March 27, 2025.
