You gather the records for your line, get them apostilled and translated, and file them with the consulate that serves you or with an Italian court. How long it takes depends on the office and on your case.
What you need to know
First check whether your case meets a Law 74/2025 exception: if it doesn't, don't spend money on documents yet
Consular route: you book an appointment with the consulate that serves your address, or with the comune if you live in Italy
Court route: a lawsuit before the competent Italian court, with a lawyer; it is also subject to Law 74/2025
Every document issued outside Italy needs an apostille and an Italian translation
